The Mandala

Mandala is the Sanskrit word for circle or completion. In practice, mandala has become a generic term for any plan,
chart or geometric pattern which represents the cosmos metaphysically or symbolically, a microcosm of the universe
from the human perspective.

A mandala, especially its center, can be used during meditation as an object for focusing attention.

In my artwork, I find that the mandala theme of creating in a circular design is a personal, spiritual process. Many of these
artworks, in a variety of media, represent people, places, or events in my life.

"...the mandala, literally 'circle', is one of the most potent symbols of humankind. Its circular form and concentric structure
reflect the shape of the universe outside and the sense of perfection within. Concentration on its form and content is an
aid to prayer and meditation, leading eventually to a complete at-oneness with the world."
